Before we start, I should just mention that the Dyson Airstrait was a Christmas present from my husband - and I don’t have any links with Dyson - it’d be great if I did because their products are super expensive!
Here is the situation:
I’ve got crazy hair. It’s thick, long and frizzy. And I hate blowdrying it. Always have. Always will. I’ve spent a small fortune on salon blow-dry packages since I moved to Dubai.
Postpartum hairloss and regrowth
After I had my children a lot of my hair fell out and grew back into tight little curls, which sounds great but isn’t ideal when the rest of your hair is a completely different texture.
In summary, I am very grateful for my lovely locks but a) I don’t have the time to style them every day b) I don’t enjoy the process and c) after years of colouring, styling and living in the Dubai sunshine – let’s just say, my barnet has been through the ringer.
So, let’s get into why I put this new tool from Dyson on my Christmas wishlist.
Firstly, what is it?
The Dyson Airstrait is a wet to dry straightening tool with no hot plates and no extreme heat. Basically, you can cut out the blow-dry step and get into the straightening bit right away.
How does it work?
It uses a high-pressure airflow to straighten your hair and dry it at the same time. There are three pre-set temperatures – 80, 110 and 140 degrees Celsius and you can use it on wet or dry hair.
Why I love it:
A more streamlined routine
Less heat damage
Saves time (and money on blow-dry packages)
Use it in ‘dry mode’ to touch up your style later on.
‘Lock’ the plates to pre dry your roots – so if you’re like me and have frizzy hair you can essentially use this tool like a hair dryer to get that sleeker finish.
A few things to bear in mind before you make the hefty AED 1,999 investment:
It gives a very ‘natural’ finish. This isn’t going to give you a super sleek look, it’s more of an everyday, smooth and fuss-free hairstyle.
It doesn’t add much to your life if you don’t actually mind the drying and styling process – or if you’re lucky enough to have hair that behaves itself on its own.
It is quite loud – my kids always run away when I’ve got it on. Maybe next time I need a break from them, I will pretend I’m ‘doing my hair’!
My Final Thoughts
For me, the Dyson Airstrait has been a game changer but, as with any product, you need to do your research first and define what it is that you actually need/want from it. For example, I know so many people love the Dyson Airwrap but it personally wouldn’t work for me as I’m no good at curling my hair – I just don’t have the patience. Side note, this is definitely not a replacement for the Airwrap so do your homework before you invest in yet another styling tool which takes up space on your dressing table.
Check out the Dyson Airstrait on the Dyson website but there are plenty of better deals to be had across the internet. Make sure you shop around!
