NAME: Amy Gilbert

AGE: 36 years old

INSTAGRAM HANDLE: @agilbertphysio or @perfectbalanceuae

JOB TITLE: Owner of Perfect Balance Rehabilitation Center, Partner in Osteopathic Perfect Balance Medical Centre, Physiotherapist

Amy is a wife, and a mother to two young children, a 3 and a half and 1 year old. She is also the owner of a rehabilitation center and partner in a medical centre and a physiotherapist. She wears multiple hats each day, balancing the clinical, operational, and leadership aspects of the practice. Keeping the team motivated, ensuring the clinic runs smoothly, and managing all of the responsibilities that both of those job roles involve. Her other hat is being a wife and a mother. She personally finds the switch quite easy, and when she walks through her front door and sees her children and husband, she can switch to the other role.

Amy loves being a Physiotherapist and helping people get back to what they love doing is a big passion of hers. Breaking people’s cycles of suffering and dealing with pain or symptoms they thought they just had to live with, is a wonderful skill. However, she has found great love in managing a team, and her biggest driver is to create a workspace where people enjoy their job, can help others, and thrive themselves.

Becoming a mother has opened Amy's eyes to a whole other world, but has also increased the pressure, as she wants to also show her children that family comes first, but also what it is to love your work.

Another big passion of Amy's is exercise. She loves training, but she also loves what it does for her and that is, that it makes her feel great. The sense of achievement and the endorphins first thing in the morning are such a positive start to her day. It also means she gets to see sunrise five days a week, which is her favourite time of day. Amy's weekdays would not be complete without starting the day with exercise. This is her non-negotiable. The alarm goes off at 5am, and she trains for 45-60 minutes depending on how quick she gets out of bed and gets into gear. She either runs, or weight trains, and as time is so precious she has set up a gym at home so that she don’t lose time getting to and from a gym. Weekends she enjoys a little lie-in and a slower morning with the family.

Today Amy shares her 3 biggest life lessons to date with us:

Life will always be a balancing act. Just as you get older, what you end up balancing does become more important and you must not forget what your true values are. I look back sometimes at life before being married and children and think I’d love to go back to my former self and tell her “hey, have fun and don’t stress about these small things, it’s not worth it”.

Every day is a mix of professional and personal priorities, and I have learnt that I love having both. Both of these aspects provide a different purpose and drive. It is very easy to get caught up in work, and the reality is there will always be work to do. However, ensuring family time is always prioritised is a life lesson, I am continually striving towards. I was brought up where family always came first, and to this day have such a strong bond with my family. This is something I will continue to teach and show my children, so they hold this value close to their heart as they go through life.

“Be present where your feet are”. This is a life lesson I have only just learnt but it speaks so strongly to me and I will never forget it. In today’s society or environment so many people are “elsewhere”. Phones are a blessing but also a curse, they mean you can be connected to everyone but disconnect from what is in front of you. In the past I have not always been present where my feet have been, and as a result, been unproductive with my time bouncing from one thing to another. It’s a pretty unfulfilling feeling when I’ve not dedicated focussed time to any one project. Taking on this this message, I am now ensuring (to the best of my ability), to be present where I am. It is a work in progress and will continue to be, and it is important to remember that these things take time to change mindset and approach, however out of all life lessons this one has been the easiest to implement, as when you do it, the results are instant.
