We sit down with Lucy Goff, founder of wellness brand LYMA, to talk skincare, supplements and ageing. Plus, we learn about the new ingredient in LYMA’s award-winning nutraceutical that is being described as ‘exercise in a pill’.
LYMA launched in 2018 with the only supplement to include ten peer-reviewed ingredients in dosages proven to work, that can’t be found in food. The patented formula includes Turmeric and Ashwagandha extracts, soluble keratin, stable Vitamin K and more, and is designed to target sleep, anxiety, focus, immunity, beauty and metabolism.
Raemona: Thanks for joining us, Lucy. Firstly, please can you tell us how you got into the wellness and skincare industry?
Lucy: It all began after a challenging experience with the birth of my first child. I developed septicaemia and ended up in intensive care for six weeks. My body was completely drained for a long time afterwards due to all the interventions and I tried everything to get better. It was through a chance encounter with an Oxford University professor that I discovered the incredible world of pharmaceutical-grade supplements. After experiencing their benefits firsthand, I felt compelled to share this discovery with others, and that's how LYMA was born.
R: You’ve recently added a new component to the supplement called ActivAMP® which is described as ‘exercise in a pill’. Please tell us more!
L: Yes, we’ve added an 11th ingredient that helps to reset your metabolism and adds to LYMA’s anti-ageing innovations. In today's world, most of us lead very sedentary lives and our metabolism can get a bit sluggish. This new ingredient mimics the effects of exercise. In fact, it's what some astronauts take when they go to space to make sure their bodies do not suffer due to being inactive for a long period. ActivAMP® is also recommended for anyone taking Ozempic, as it may protect the muscle loss induced by weight-loss injections.
R: Moving on, let’s talk about the wellness and technology side of your business. How do your laser devices differ from other treatments on the market?
L: Our skincare technology is based on low-level laser therapy which has been used in hospitals since the 1960s for various purposes like cartilage regeneration and wound repair. Unlike traditional lasers, which can be harsh and damaging, our technology uses cold lasers that are safe for home use. These lasers penetrate deep into the skin, triggering a switch in each cell that promotes renewal and combats ageing. This approach is completely different from other popular treatments like microneedling or radiofrequency, which can cause damage and are not suitable for all skin tones. Even LED masks, which are widely used, only offer surface-level benefits and lack the ability to create significant changes in the skin.
R: Amazing! What about LYMA skincare?
L: We realized that there was a need for a skincare protocol that worked synergistically with our near-infrared laser light technology. We wanted to create something that truly remodelled the skin. Unlike many skincare products that are just moisturizers with added hype, our powerful, bioactive Serum and Cream are informed by the science of epigenetics to target the eight mechanisms of skin ageing.
R: It's fascinating how you've combined cutting-edge technology with a holistic approach to wellness. Can you tell us more about LYMA’s philosophy?
L: At LYMA, we believe that skin, sleep, and stress are all interconnected. You can't address one without considering the others. Our system tackles these issues from the inside out, unlike many other protocols that often counteract each other. This is why we've developed a comprehensive system that includes supplements, laser therapy, and skincare products, all working together to promote overall well-being.
R: How do you see the future of skincare and wellness evolving?
L: I think technology will play an even bigger role, with more treatments becoming accessible at home. We'll see a shift away from damaging procedures towards safer, more effective technologies. AI will also be a game-changer, providing unbiased information and personalized recommendations.
R: You've built this brand while also raising a family. How do you balance it all?
L: It's definitely a juggle! Some days, the business needs more attention, and other days, it's my family. I always try to prioritize my children and make sure they know they can come to me whenever they need to. Sundays are sacred family days, no matter what.
