This January, I really embraced a ‘glow-down’ after a busy festive period. Minimal make up, clean girl nails and a focus on back-to-basics skincare were the only things on my beauty agenda.
But, when I was asked to attend a Hydrafacial event and try out the latest in-clinic treatment, I knew this would align perfectly with my glow-down-uary goals. Bridging the gap between medical and consumer beauty, Hydrafacial is known for delivering immediate results, being non-invasive, and it comes recommended by both aestheticians and skin care professionals.
// The problem with my skin
As someone who is pushing 40 years old and suffers with acne scarring and rosacea, I often find facials disappointing. I want the glow, but I don’t want the discomfort. But Hydrafacial’s offering is so different. It is a fully customisable experience designed to meet the different needs of every skin type and concern. Perfect for someone like me who has a list of issues to address.
Hydrafacial is based on a simple three step process: cleanse, extract and hydrate. There’s no pain and zero downtime. Ideal for those who can’t afford to take a lot of time out of their day to recover –people who have jobs, kids, lives etc – this one is for you.
// The process
Using patented Vortex-Fusion technology and a vacuum powered handpiece, Hydrafacial delivers a hydra dermabrasion technique that removes impurities while simultaneously infusing the skin with hydration.
Step one uses gentle exfoliation and resurfacing using glycolic and salicylic acids to revitalise the skin.
Step two uses painless suction to dislodge and remove impurities from your pores, followed by intense moisturisation to quench the skin.
Step three uses a nourishing infusion of antioxidants and peptides saturates the skin to maximise your glow.
// What I loved the most about this treatment
The therapist shows you ‘the gunk jar’ at the end of the treatment which is full of the dead skin cells and oil that has come out of your skin. Absolutely gross but thoroughly satisfying to see.
It was completely painless, and I went back to work straight afterwards with minimal redness and a glow people commented on all day.
There are skin boosters for everyone. I had the JLo Beauty Booster which tightens, brightens and hydrates and I absolutely loved it!
// The best of both worlds
As I mentioned at the beginning of this review, what I love the most about Hydrafacial is that its treatments bridge the gap between medical and consumer beauty. Do I feel happier knowing that the treatment is backed by doctors and rooted in advanced science and technology? Yes. Do I still want to feel pampered and relaxed? Yes, of course!
