Six Best Self-development Books To Add To Your List For 2025

Harriet Mandak is the Founder of The Connected Collective, a life coach and rapid transformational therapist.

Here she shares the six books you need to add to your reading list this year.

// The Perfectionist’s Guide to Losing Control by Katherine Morgan Schafler

This book has earned a permanent spot on my shelf - a place reserved for those rare gems I’ll gift or recommend without hesitation. Even if you don’t identify as a perfectionist, there’s something universal in the author’s compassionate tone and message. One of our book club members perfectly summed it up: “It feels like a warm hug, reminding you it’s okay to feel how you do or be who you are.”

What stood out most is how Schafler redefines perfectionism - not as something negative, but as an integral part of who we are that can be embraced in healthy, empowering ways. It’s truly a must-read for all women!

// Solve for Happy by Mo Gawdat

Another firm fan favorite from the Book Club, Solve for Happy by Mo Gawdat might just be one of my all-time favorite self-help books. Among twenty books we’ve read since the club began, this one stands out for its masterful blend of personal narrative, scientific insight, and spiritual wisdom.

Gawdat’s journey of finding happiness while navigating the tragic loss of his son is deeply moving. Each chapter feels like a conversation with a wise friend, offering tools and perspectives that challenge how we define and pursue happiness. This isn’t just another “how-to” guide on happiness; it’s a powerful exploration of love, loss, and the unshakable resilience of the human spirit.

// Into the Magic Shop by James R. Doty

Into the Magic Shop by James R. Doty is a compelling blend of memoir and mindfulness that truly captivated me, offering a refreshing perspective on a topic that, dare I say, can sometimes feel overdone.

The story of a young James Doty learning manifestation from a kind stranger he met in a magic shop - who took him under her wing and taught him to connect his brain and heart - feels both authentic and deeply relatable. This heartfelt, beautifully written book is a poignant reminder of the magic we all carry within us and the power of compassion and connection.

// The Knowing: 11 Lessons to Understand the Quiet Urges of Your Soul by Saje and Serena Dyer

Another personal and heartfelt story - this time from the daughters of the late Wayne Dyer. To millions, Dr. Wayne Dyer was the “Father of Motivation,” but to Saje and Serena, he was simply “Dad.” When he passed away in 2015, they were overwhelmed with grief and unprepared to face life without his guidance.

Their journey from loss to understanding led them to reconnect with their father’s teachings - “The Knowing” - and realise it was always within them, as it is within all of us. In The Knowing, the sisters share 11 powerful lessons that shaped their spiritual evolution, offering a heartfelt guide for seekers to return to love, forgiveness, and the innate wisdom within all of us.

// You Are Enough by Marisa Peer

The book that inspired me to become a Rapid Transformational Therapist! You Are Enough by Marisa Peer is a powerful, transformative read that reminds us of a truth we often forget — we are already enough, just as we are.

Peer’s approachable, no-nonsense style blends practical strategies with deeply affirming messages, making this book both inspiring and actionable. It’s an easy and engaging read (or listen!) packed with simple yet profound techniques to rewire limiting beliefs and build self-worth.

// Atomic Habits by James Clear

An oldie but a goodie! If you haven’t read this yet - you need to. Atomic Habits is the ultimate guide to making small, meaningful changes that create big, lasting transformations.

James Clear’s practical, easy-to-follow approach breaks down how habits are formed and, more importantly, how to build good ones and break bad ones. What I love about this book is its simplicity and effectiveness. Clear’s insights are backed by science but delivered in a way that feels actionable and achievable. Whether you’re looking to improve your health, productivity, or mindset, this book is a game-changer.
