Why Work Besties are THE BEST

Over my career, I learned quickly that the people you work with make all the difference in the world.


We spend around 40% of our day at work; add in commuting and lunch breaks in the office, and it can add up to almost half.  So working with people who have similar values and are nice, is essential for good mental health, I’d say. Having friendships at work contributes to a positive work environment, leading to higher job satisfaction and overall happiness in the workplace.

 

With time (and experience), we build relationships – and honestly, there is no one who would understand the intricacies of your work life better than your work bestie. Who is going through all of it with you – the great wins, the success & celebrations, the downfalls, the stress, and all the rollercoaster of emotions a job brings.


So, as a lover of lists, I’ve put together five reasons why Work Besties are amazing!

 


1.         They KNOW


Better than anyone, they understand your feelings because they are in the same boat as you, they are the witness to everything happening, and they know how to deal with it. Because they’ve probably seen you go through it before or have done so themselves. Work is a major aspect of life, and if you share it with someone else – they already know that big aspect, so it is easier to share other parts and count on them for understanding. They also know you, so if you’re having a meltdown because of something insignificant at work, they know you’re not psycho and it’s not that particular thing but part of a bigger issue.

 

2.         Support Systems


No one will support you, cheer you on, motivate you or inspire you to better performance than your work bestie. They root for you, they believe in you, or simply – they’ll put you in situations where you’ll have to level up! On the other hand, when you cannot give it your best shot – they are the shoulder you lean on for support. Whether you are being stressed with your personal life or just having a really bad day – they have your back!

 


3.         They just make life more FUN


When you look back at your work life, you’ll mostly remember the moments with the people. Working on a pitch till 1 am, laughing at something that’s happened, the experiences you shared, and such. It’s always better to double the happiness and divide the sadness and I believe that applies to work as well. I mean, who are you going to complain to when things go South, and you need to get it off your chest?

 


4.         It’s a collaboration – a real connection


Friendships at work mean better communication, better problem-solving, enhanced teamwork and that all has a ripple effect. You also have a person who is genuinely ready to tell you if your idea is terrible or bounce off ideas because you have a connection and understanding with them.

 


5.         Sometimes – they become true friends


I mean it’s inevitable sometimes, or you just get lucky. Those work besties become an integral part of your life that extends beyond the workplace. They become true friends who support you in all aspects of your existence, offering their guidance, patience, love and care. I wish everyone to find this, as it is a true blessing!
